The club looks out over Elmwood Park - a classic Oak-lined English Village Green, used for club cricket in the summer months and soccer in the winter. To the north-east, the club car park borders with Heaton Intermediate and neighbouring St Andrews private school.
Elmwood tennis club has nine courts available - six to the north of the clubhouse and three tucked away behind it. The front 6 were all re-surfaced in February 2015, with the back three finished in July 2008.
An SGM has been scheduled for the 19th December at 3.00pm in the clubrooms to discuss the redevelopment of courts 7, 8 and 9.
The meeting will take place during afternoon tea and after the meeting tennis will resume for those that are interested.
This is an important and significant development for our club therefore your attendance would be greatly appreciated.
All members and friends are very welcome to come along to our Christmas Party on Saturday 12th December starting at 7pm.
Free glass of bubbles or fruit juice on arrival. Platters of delicious food throughout the night. Music and mingle the night away.
ELMWOOD GLAM SLAM EVENT 2014
The Glam Slam fundraising event held at the club on Fri 7 Nov was a huge success! The Glam Slam had two key objectives – to put on a memorable social event and to raise a significant amount in new funds, primarily to be used for the Elmwood Junior programme.
Everyone who went has said emphatically what a great night they had and while we are still finalising the financial result, it looks like we’ve raised in the order of $25,000! As was the intent behind the event, the majority of this will be spent on improving the environment and opportunities for our Juniors. Some may already have noticed the new Juniors Area in the downstairs part of the Club rooms – the first of several initiatives that are being developed by Warren Mercer and his team on the Junior subcommittee.
These initiatives will be incorporated in a Juniors Plan that the ETC Board will implement over the next few months. While still in development, it will include initiatives to create a physical area specifically for Juniors, improved coaching options, develop activities to encourage family involvement at the club and financial assistance for players selected for regional or national squads.
Congratulations and sincerest thanks to Sarah Coates and her team (Sarah Gamble, Sue Fulton, Julianne Darling, Juliana Anderson, Rhett Mason, Gill Cain, Shirrin Story, Cath Simes and Maree Rodwell), without whom this event simply would not have happened. Their commitment, meticulous preparation and tireless effort over several months has brought about a result that is vastly better than we had hoped.
Thanks also to Ash who, ultimately, was the go-to guy for any crises… to the bar team of Mike, Dave, Lillee and Elliott …..and to the helpers (Gabby, Sarah, Lawrence, Anabelle, Ben & Lee, most of them our own Juniors, who did a brilliant job. And Georgia, chief photographer.
Finally, our sincere thanks to our four event underwriters – Christchurch Radiology Group, Joes Garage, Murray & Co and SportsMed whose confidence to support the night removed all financial risk for the club.
