The OBU club and Victoria University Foundation are working on a project to upgrade the Boyd-Wilson field in Kelburn. This will give OBU a first rate training and playing venue.
Both organisations have made financial pledges towards the upgrade and have set up a joint fundraising appeal.
The project involves:
- installing an artificial turf surface
- upgrading the floodlighting
- building spectator seating.

The upgrade will:
- provide first-rate training facilities, facilitating the improvement of individual player skills and team performance
- help to attract new playing and coaching talent
- enable players to use the artificial, all-weather turf throughout the year
- provide a home for the OBU club and club activities.

Did you know...
The field was named after Professor Edwin John
Boyd-Wilson, a stalwart of Wellington rugby who
taught at Victoria University from 1920-1954. |
A bit of background about the field:
The Boyd-Wilson field, next to Victoria University’s Kelburn campus, was built in the 1950s. The field itself
has had no improvements made to it since its irrigation system was installed in the late 1980s.
