Poneke - Week Ahead 21/05/12

23 May 2012

I hope you're all well and enjoyed another amazing night at Poneke Football Club celebrating our 129th Old Timers Day.  Congratulations to the Senior First, Senior Two & Ruffnuts who won against their respective teams on Saturday.

Old Timers Day was made complete with the Senior Players doing the club haka for the Old Timers and our visiting teams.  It was a real delight to see so many different nationalities join together and perform the haka in one voice and one motion.

Pressies - The Pressie retained the Hub Cap against Oriental-Rongotai winning 18-17 with John Jackson converting the extras with the boot in the dying seconds of the game.

Senior First - The Senior First made it two in a row against HOBM with a decisive 25-7 win.  First on the board after ten minutes was Daly 'The Penguin' Meiklejohn who muscled over for a classic forwards try and was converted by returning 1st 5 Liam Townsend.  Soon to follow over the try line was Scott Garvie who swooped on a fantastic off-load to score in the corner with Jacob Strang scoring in the second half.  Michael Sage finished off the extras with 1 conversion and 2 penalties.

Extra special mention to Michael Sage who stood in for Faatoto Moananu during their court session.
