Terms: 1 and 4
The Waikato Diocesan School for Girls Rowing Club was established in 1994 as an Incorporated Society. It exists independently of the school but is closely associated with it. The Club provides the opportunity for girls at the school to experience the joys and challenges of the fastest growing women’s sport in New Zealand.
Regattas
The Club competes in two types of Regattas, Club Regattas where Waikato Dio row for the Waikato Rowing Club and School Regattas. Club Regattas are generally held from November to January and the School Regattas start in February.
The season finale is the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships (known as the Maadi Cup Regatta) which alternates yearly between Lake Karapiro and Lake Ruataniwha, Twizel.
The Waikato Dio Rowing Club has enjoyed great success in its short history winning medals across the board at both the North Island and New Zealand Secondary School Championships.
Last season Dio won
· Star Trophy for top New Zealand Rowing School, Maadi 2011 – 10 Gold, 1 Silver

Joining the Rowing Club
Rowing is hugely challenging and rewarding and offers athletes the opportunity to learn how to push themselves both physically and mentally, the opportunity to achieve a high level of fitness and to experience the bonds and friendships that can be forged from taking part in one of the ultimate team sports.
Initial sign up takes place early in Term 3 with those students who are interested being introduced to some basic technique and fitness training.
Final trials and crew selection for first year crews take place towards the end of Term 3. For those selected there will be a 3 day training camp in the Spring holidays.
The competitive rowing season then begins in Term 4 culminating in the Maadi Cup Regatta near the end of Term 1 the following year.
New students to Dio, who have rowed previously and wish to be a part of the Dio Rowing team can contact Donna Watts, Rowing Manager on 0274867192 to discuss how they can be accommodated and when they could begin training with the rest of the squad.
