Welcome to Orienteering at Westlake
Participation has continued to grow in this demanding sport which
offers competitors a physical test alongside the challenge of navigating around a course using map reading skills. Courses
vary from those set around local schools for sprint events to the tougher forest courses used for the national events, and
students race against similar competitors in junior, intermediate and senior grades.
Recent years has seen the Orienteering squad win titles in Auckland Secondary Schools competitions and challenge for
national titles. The sport is led from the front by team captain, Benjamin Reynolds, who has also represented New Zealand
in international orienteering competitions for the last three years.
The next scheduled is the Secondary Schools National Championships at Woodhill Forest in July.
Annual schools events include the Sprint, Relays and Individual competitions together with North Island, South Island and National Championships.
